What turtle is the best turtle to have as a pet? Like what are the common ones and thier interests, since I am in search of a turtle and want to find out which one I would want to have as a pet.

EDIT: What about that turtle makes it so great?

Aquatic turtles take a lot of work, but RES are very hardy and cheap. Most are outgoing and very competitive. Plenty of RES out there need new homes.

The other types are fine too, but will be more expensive to get and will need more specific requirements - diet, temperatures, water quality, etc.

I'm glad I started with RES; they've survived any mistakes I've made and they continue to surprise me with their personalities.

I think a painted turtle or a musk/mud turtle are best. They stay small for those that cant offord to give very large habitats res need.

I own a Mississippi map and a res. They are about 8 months old.The res in now almost twice the size of the miss. Res do get bigger than miss do that's for sure. My miss is real shy but my res is completely the opposite. I would keep in mind how large different breeds get. Good luck.

Probably a safe bet to say you have a male map. Females in maps still get just as large as female res.

Yep sounds like a male. Male maps get really big tails on them so probably already showing hes gonna be a male. As for the res wait until 4inches.

Who knows. Usually turtles housed together since the begining do fine. Personally my male res hated other res but does fine with other species of turtles. I think they will do fine together but you never know. You just have to watch.

Hopefully! At least you can get a smaller tank if you have to divide one for males.
