Hello evryone.. I don't know if this is the right place to place this.. but, I just got bit by my 3yr old turtle, i was trying to keep the tank clean from "its business" .. and my turtle bit me.. I'm truly heart broken because he never did it before, what should I do to prevent this from happening again? I'm thinking maybe it was hungry or something? I don't know wht to think, I need advice. Thanks in advance! X)

When they're in water, they will instinctively bite. There's nothing wrong with them or you, just be careful so it doesn't happen again.

And if they do get a good grip on you, try not to pull back quickly or they might get hurt. Wait it out or push a little inwards and they might release.

I have a 10 month old and he is very sweet or has been, but recently when we take him out he opens his mouth a little.. I am not sure if this is just normal behavior or a sign of aggression. No bites yet, and I too will be heartbroken if he ever does = : <

The only one that's ever bitten me is Chewy (go figure). He was scared because he had just been roughly pulled out of the water by some teenage kids who were helping me clear my pond and I put an arm too close to try and shelter him (mommy instinct) and he latched right onto my arm (turtle instinct).

It's healed up into almost a heart-shaped scar, but you can barely see it. I don't mind it, really. He was just being a turtle. I learned my lesson and now I am more careful so that it doesn't happen with any of the others.
