I have these 2 male red ear sliders that flutter to each other frequently, much more so than to the females (almost never). I know that it can be a sign of friendliness/mating or dominance/aggression but they have never attack each other or seem aggressive with each other. Then today, I saw one of them mounting the other one and both of the male turtles had their penis out :shock: . This is the first time I saw something like that. So, is it a dominance thing or can my turtles actually be gay? O.o

Male and female RES flutter, so it's like a warning to each other. I'm not sure about a dominance thing, though younger males have a tendency for fanning since it's new to them. They might also fan when they're stressed out.

I haven't heard much of this idea but considering how things are working similarly, I think that there will be some level of truth or at least hints of it to work this way.

But when you are going to put everything together and how they are possibly going to work, I think that it would be a good idea to have them considered to be accepted in any form.

@steve +1 with everything.
although i've seen fluttering between males as aggression (small tank) and stress (one turtle agressive to another causing).
