so tried an experiment last night in the new 75gallon turtle tank. putting the male and female bettas i have in at opposite ends of the tank and seeing if they can cohabitate in their own turfs in it. like they did in the 20tall i had prior. didn't last long they didn't really attack persay, but they were trying to mate. which in betta world is still fighting.

toothless is my most social cooter and biggest currently at a whole 1.75" he butted his way between them and stayed there till they went there own ways. didn't last long. soon as he was gone my male went after my girl again. once toothless spotted this, he actually swam back over, took his time to position himself and grab my male betta's tailfin, and pulled him away from my female betta. he let go of him with no noticeable damage done to his tail. but at this point i did remove both bettas from the tank and back in their own bowls.

and this isn't even the first time he's done this. when we first got toothless and his was slightly larger than a dollar coin. when the loach bit my male betta, toothless went and took a nip at his tail. didn't chase after it or anything just a nip of like back off.

so yeah that's my story. i got nothing else. anyone else got a referee turtle?

Don't be surprised if toothless makes those bettas into snacks. He'll bit and nip until he's done.

see that's what i thought too. he was finally getting into that kill all the fish mode! long fins perfect madador cape. we have tons of fish in the tank. none of them touch them. it's ridiculous. i bought most of them to be eaten. bought 2 crayfish to eat what they weren't and the go and kill one of the crayfish and eat it. but not the fish. my betta has gone back in a few times now for cleaning. and toothless leaves him alone. (both bettas don't go in together anymore)

I would just like to share that my turtle has been co-habitating with my jack dempsey, 2 angelfish & a catfish in my 75 gallon tank for several years.

Personally, I think if they are raised, while hatchling size, around fish, they don't have an interest in eating them. That's the best I can come up with.

i guess bugs and jello shots is all they'll eat then. or shrimp and crayfish. which is dang. i wanted them to keep my fish population down. (live bearers.) male betta has his own tank now, and the female is in with the turtles. so no troubles currently
