For a month, my Red Ears, Crash and Dash, were housed in the same tank with a Chinese Golden Thread I adopted, Ace. When Ace got the tip of his tailed bitten off, I separated him for the RES. ( I suspect Dash.)

I fortunately had an extra 30 gallon and purchased Ace a companion, King Koppa, a month later. Same species. (I believe all my turtles are male. But they're still too small to tell.) Ace immediately went into an aggressive spell. I couldn't keep the CGs together and rather than get rid of Koppa, I ran an experiment.

Since Crash and Ace got along, and Dash and Koppa are loners, I paired them up as such and there has been tranquility for a while. I have raised RES for 15 years. But I'm looking for feedback from you guys, particular those of you with more than one species as pets.

I haven't, but this from ATP: Ocadia sinensis is usually a non-aggressive turtle and generally do well with other Asian species that require similar needs. That said, there is never a guarantee of any two turtles getting along.

It sounds like Ace became defensive, though it's really hard to judge what will happen with turtles.

Thanks Steve. Appreciate you taking the time, really. I agree. Ace certainly switched to a bite first stance in general (unusually hostile towards his kin in particular). Thanks for the gist from ATP

In my tank, only one was the aggressor. Since my other turtle did not defend herself, I do not know what would have happened if she did.

Whew!
While I was cleaning the larger aquarium, i placed all turtles in one tank. When I pulled out the GTs, they changed their tune. They are now amigos.

Good thing, the red ears are more frantic when kept apart.
