About 3 hours ago I decided that I wanted to let my trio have a little exploration time. I set them out on the small grass patch outside the kitchen window, on ground level. They are able to climb up the short barrier with a lot of difficulty. I dug a large hole on one end, rather shallow but wide, and filled it up with water. I left the hose running so there would be a fresh stream of water. It made a pretty nifty mini-pond.
An hour or so later I returned them to their carrying tank as I checked for possible casualties and wiped down the area, but I realized that Charlie was missing. Charlie was my smallest of the three and the sweetest. (There was this one day where I was in a bad mood, and I stuck my hand into the water to adjust their dock. Charlie came over and sat on my hand xD <3 ) I was thoroughly worried and searched for about two hours. There was no avail, although I had poked around everywhere in the grass patch. It is now 8:30 PM and it's dark out. I am worried for the safety of my little baby. Would cats get to him? There was quite a few hiding areas and I had left out a small red dish, with water , pellets and his favorite snack of anchovies. I added everything I knew would tempt him, including the goldfish flakes ._. My family is annoyed at the whining I made, and I realized they thought of my pets as pests. "One less critter, one less nuisance!" My mother yelled. You could tell that I wasnt really comforted or helped in any way.
My grandmother saw me crying and offered to help me find it tomorrow morning, but I'm starting to lose hope. She said that she would buy me another tomorrow. I declined; doesnt she understand what feelings are?
Any ideas to protect my baby from predators or harm? :/

UPDATE:
The dish has no holes or cracks or anything in it but at every check with a 10-min interval, it is always emptied of water. Suspecting it is a cat, but I left out a square plastic box filled to the brim with water and it has no water drainage at all. The dish is not overturned or disturbed in any way. Hmm.

He will likely hide. there are a lot of dangers out there. Look under and in everything you can twice even stuff you think he can't get into. The missing food and water would probably be from cats, raccoons, ect.

Weird though. The culprit didn't even touch the large tupperware-ful of water but seems to drain the dish's water. LOL.
UPDATE THIS MORNING:
Charlie still isn't back, but a check on the dish told me he may be in the area: all the red (meat/protein) pellets are gone and not a scrap of anchovy left. All the green pellets still there though. (CHARLIEEE. Eat your greens o.e)

Thanks Love of Animals. ;w; ! /goes back to poking around.
I hope he'll still be... alive. /shudder

When I lost my turtle outside once, I seriously just crawled up and down yard on my hands and knees and ran my hands through the grass the entire time. When they get out, they dig into the ground and just blend right in. It isn't that you're not looking hard enough, they're just impossible to see. My turtle was around 4 inches at the time and I still looked for a good hour before finding him under my moms tomato plant, I can't imagine searching for a baby. Good luck!

Sorry to hear it but please keep looking. (http://redearslider.com/lost_turtle.html)

Any temporary enclosure needs to be closely monitored.
