I find snappers the most beautiful fresh water turtles. My fav are sea turtles like EVERYONES of course. After having my common snapping turtles, man, i miss having them. I would love to have a baby snapper. they are the cutest and most BEAST turtles on planet Earth. Look at that guy opening his mouth showin ya his strength as a BABY! just wait till he is 50 Pounds and about 3 foot in length....you will think twice before trying to hold him like that.

Snappers have almost a 90 degree snapping range around there shell so its pretty scarry holding a snapper when they are big enought to take off more then 1 finger in 1 bite. They can reach almost all the way to there tail in a snap when big. mine would go crazy when out of water. I read on some info sites that you can pet a snappers head in water because that is where they feel safe but once out of water its suicide to try to pet them at all. makes sence right? care to give it a try? lol...even a baby like that will draw blood EASY!!! look at them chompers!! how old is he? SO cute!

Sini5ster, I have a friend who is the reptile guy. Its too bad you arent closer, he has the cutest little baby snapper for sale. He use to live in the boonies (oh West Virginia) and he would catch stuff just to take pictures of them haha. I dont think I would want a snapper..my RES freak me out enough with their biting issues!

Was at a pet store earlier today and they had this 20-30 or so gallon tank with all the turtle hatchlings in there. (For educational purposes only of course? Of course! Hah) Anyways, they had some really exotic ones in there today other than all the painted and yellow bellied. There was literally like 20 or so tiny yellow bellied hatchlings piled on each other like a pyramid. Probably no bigger than a quarter in size. But the really unique ones I saw were a couple of soft shells and best one was this somewhat large turtle that looked like a snake tucked in a shell with legs. I've seen them before but not sure what kind of turtle it is. Had a really long neck. O_O Sooo wanted to buy it, they didn't even have a price for it. I saw one poor little snapper in it too. About the size of a quarter as well. God I hope they have tanks for all those turtles when they're not trying to sell them in one place , I wanted to buy them all to get them outta there. :\

Agreed! Touche only bit me once on accident, when I was hand feeding her. I didn't even realize I had been bitten for a second, because that beak is like a razor blade. We both jumped away, she obviously was freaked out too, and hadn't meant to. But now there's that unspoken thing where I'm always a little more careful, and she doesn't threaten to bite unless really POed.

Sure it wasn't an African Sideneck or an Eastern long-necked turtle? Google some pictures. The Petsmart close to me (I live in KY) had an African Sideneck the day I adopted Tesla. He was torturing my turt. D:

Touche the Turtle, I made the mistake of not handling mine while they were little (parents were afraid I would get salmonella ..they regretted letting me get these guys from the beach immediately lol). So 10 years later, they want to fill anything that takes them out of the water lol! Raina is the worst ..she she hisses and leaves her mouth wide open when I pick her up.

Check out this guy. He lives with baby Alligators at Alligator Adventures at Myrtle Beach. I didnt even see him..my boyfriend pointed him out. Image

LOL He is huge!

My RES never really got handled too much as a hatchling either, mostly because she never seemed to like it and I felt bad like I was stressing her out.

Yeah that was another concern of mine because I had killed a hermit crab that way the year before (opps). I really regret it now :(
