My friend has a 4 inch res and he doesn't want it. So I want it but I got 2 baby 1 inch res. Can I put it with my baby res or would his turtle eat my turtle I'm so scared

I would not add them together, if you want the other turtle i'd highly recommend putting it into it's own set up.

Even if it's the nicest turtle in the world the size difference could cause many health issues for your little guy. It's safer to keep them seperate.

You should see about asking your friend who doesn't want the turtle what they plan to do with the tank it's already in if your interested in taking it.

I am new to turtles but with all the research I've done in the past month, and reading the stories of others here, even same-size turtles can get aggressive and do harm to each other. At the very least I would be uncomfortable taking that chance, all other concerns aside. It's not safe for your tiny ones.

Also, do you have the ability to create a suitable setup for two RES, much less three, in the near future? I am actually giving one of my turtles back to the friend it came from, who has several tanks and a pond, because I am concerned about providing the right size habitat for two turtles -- especially if one or both turn out to be females. I can't imagine trying to care for three, which at a minimum would be two very large tanks and the necessary equipment.

i have 1 female and 1 male res there 1inch still and there in a 20 gal tank with 2 fluval filter. when there about 3inch or 4inches im build them a bigger tank.

Would you be trying to put the 4 inch turtle in there as well? Your two small guys are going to require 60-80 gallons minimum when they're 3 to 4 inches. Logistically, if you take this third turtle, you're going to need a second tank for it, because you're looking at approaching 200 gallons water once your babies grow and the 4-inch grows -- and then they're going to grow some more. And if your babies grow up and get aggressive with each other, you'll have to separate them as well.

There's no way to safely and hygienically house a 4-inch turtle and 2 smaller ones all in the same 20 gallon tank until the little ones grow to 3-4 inches. If you do take it, keep in mind the 10 gallons for inch of turtle shell length. The 4-inch turtle needs at minimum a 40 gallon tank, and that's with no more tank room for growing. Plan for multiple tanks!

I'm just keep 2 turtles. And my friend has 2 3inches turtle in a 20 gal tank long. And he just just build his new tank. So I'm do the same.

I was rereading this thread and just noticed you said you have a male and female RES but they're only 1 inch. Did you get them from a breeder who knew the hatching temperature?

NO.

Larger turtles will bully, bite, scratch and even KILL smaller turtles. This doesn't always happen, but no one on this forum recommends housing turtles together because injuries are usually a result of keeping turtles in the same tank together. It's easier for you to maintain three smaller tanks than one giant one.

He would just be guessing. As far as I know, most people don't bother pre-sexing RES as it's not worth it. I think most of us like to "assign" a gender to a hatchling, and I think we turn out to be wrong most of the time.

I keep using gender neutral pronouns or s/he to talk about my turtle. Can't wait to find out what it is.

For a while I was pretty convince Hurricane was a boy, when SHE was little. Well, obviously, she isn't.

I was glad about that because then I would've had to separate Hurricane and Typhoon, to avoid turtle babies. Plus, while Ty is a hybrid, they could still be half siblings, and that would've been inbreeding, which is mega unhealthy in the long term.

Gotta love how I house turtles together and still tell people not to do it. I have no idea why it has worked for so long, my turtles are weird o___o
