Other Turtle Discussion :: Moving apartments... How do I move my two RES?

Hello all
My wife and I are moving and we are not totally sure how to move our two dudes. We RARELY handle them, so I think they are going to be a little freaked out with the move. So my questions are:

what type of container do I use? (it will only take ten minutes to get to our new apartment)

Do I put them both in the same container, or is it safer to put them in separate containers so that they don't hurt each other if they panic?

Random question, I would love to handle both of my RES more, is there any secret to getting them more comfortble with us holding them other than just getting after it and handling them more often? ( I totally understand that they are not a touchy feely pet, but it would be awesoe t interact with them more!)

I'd use 2 separate opaque containers or boxes. If it's kept completely dark, they might just go to sleep. Line it with newspaper to make cleaning easier and leave some clean towels in there for them to burrow under.

And if it's 10 minutes, you might want to handle/pet them a little as I think it will calm them down. Just do a little more hand feeding and play with them a bit... like let them chase your hand in their water, letting them rest on your hand in the water, giving them little rubs and back scratches.

my Res were put into tupperware tubs of corresponding size. and just put in the rear footwells of the car. we just made sure they had room enough to turn round and swim a little. they seemed to be fine with it.

Thanks for your responses, Steve did you have any problems wth your turtles eating the paper towels? Both of my guys eat anything and everything I put in front of them! Do you think I should be fine with the paper towels in the box?

RES won't likely eat anything when out of water. I would just use newspaper and then use paper towels for clean up if necessary.
