Post Posted: Mon May 16, 2011 2:56 pm   Is Ruben a RES??

Okay, so I've been perusing turtle topics today and suddenly it dawned on me that I'm not even positive that my turtle is a RES. I got him & his tank off Craigslist. He's doing fantastic but he doesn't look exactly like most of the RES pics I see.

I'll try to post a pic. He's a darker green and doesn't have any red on him. He has a faint orangey yellow where the red should be. If he's a "cooter" turtle I'd like to know in case they have different needs. What do you pros think?? Thanks!

Hmm. I'm far from an expert here but maybe a yellow belly slider?

form this angle it seems to be a YBS but better pictures of the head and plastron can help to determine this

Thank you! I will try to get a better picture of his features. He does have a faint orange where the red should be around his "ear" area. I wonder if he's mixed? My sweet Rube!! I'd love to have another but from what I've seen when reading around, they don't get along very well. If he's happy alone, then I'll do my best to entertain him. ;)

He might be mixed. From that picture i'm not seeing the yellow "s" shape near his "ear" mark that is common with yellow belly sliders. But that could be because of the mix. He might also be a cooter like Steve said. More picture of his plastron (belly), carapace (top of shell) and head and neck would be helpful.
