So I took my RES outside for about 10 minutes today and he or she absolutely loved it. I've never seen it move so fast and in so many directions! When i brought it back into its tank it sorta just stared at me with a tilted head like.. :mrgreen:

why did you put me back in here?! lol How often can i take it outside to explore?

Can take her out as often as you like, just make sure its warm outside and no breezes or they could get sick. Also make sure to keep a close eye on her, they are fast little boogers.

Anytime you take out your turtle you must be prepared because you can't watch them non-stop. Other pets should be kept away (fenced in, chained up, etc) and you need to be aware of potential predators. RES easily blend in to their environment, are very good at climbing and digging. And like Jaysea said... they are fast!

reminds me...I had a startling experience in the back yard this past summer. We built a little outdoor basking area for Chomp. One beautiful, sunny day, he had been out there for a couple of hours...I went outside around 6pm to bring him back inside. But first I decided to just sit there next to him and enjoy the sun, etc. for a little while.
Well, I heard and saw the most amazing ruckus in a tree at the edge of a wooded area, about 15 feet from Chomp's little enclosure. It was a raccon, and it definitely knew Chomp was sitting there, and I'm sure the raccon would have been able to figure out how to remove Chomp from his enclosure.
I NEVER expected a threat like that to appear! I got lucky that day!!

lol oooh no.. if i take her outside its on my free time and i stay RIIIIIGHT by her side the whooooooooooooole time!

I was always comfortable with the outdoor enclosure I use until my yard was invaded by a dozen huge raccoons. They knew where the light sensors were too and never triggered them. I only use my enclosures during the day and when I'm a few feet away... but man, I did not like seeing those things.
