alright, so here is my thinking. well first off let me explain my two tanks i have running
29-full grown faintail goldfish and guppies
65-guppies, RES, and 4 goldifsh(goldfish just being grown to be placed in a friends pond come summer)

so in the 29 my guppies fry never survive because the goldfish eats more than the guppies do. so my thourgh is im just gonna move all of my guppies into the 65 with my RES where breeding doesnt seem to be a problem as i have fry survive. this means that i have one goldfish in the 299i dont rly want this goldfish but i dont have the heart to get rid of it) so im thinking i might move some of the other goldfish over into the 29. also i want to add catfish somewhere. the problem is so far the only ones ive found that i can keep in my aquariums are corydoras, the smaller ones that only get 2". these also need to be in groups to do successful. basically im looking for a bottom dweller to add because i just think they are really cool. any input on switching things around? think i should do anythign different? i have some time to think abotu this because im moving my 65 onto a stand i should be starting very soon but id liek to have an idea

If you're moving your guppies with your RES, just keep in mind you may one day run out of guppies. I know it sounds impossible, but it's not. haha... I went through it myself.

You say you have a full grown fantail in a 29 gallon... how large is it? 8" or so? You may only want to move 1 other goldfish into that tank, since you probably already know that goldfish need a lot of space b/c they get huge and they poop a ton! What type of goldfish do you have with your RES? Are they fancy? I definitely would NOT put 5 goldfish in a 29 gallon tank. Unless they're very small and it's temporary.

Now, about the cories, they like to be in groups, 5 is ok. I have 1 fantail goldfish in a 20 gallon with 4 cories ... but I really wish I didn't. They're definitely a ton of fun, but they're slow eaters, plus they eat from the bottom. The goldfish gets to most of their food so it's very difficult to feed them. (and my goldfish is still small!).

I would personally keep the goldfish tank with only goldfish, I would keep 2 or 3 in there. The guppies I would transfer somewhere else since they're tropical and goldfish are coldwater anyway. I wouldn't really get the catfish... unless you have an extra tank then you can put the guppies and the catfish together. You could just house the male guppies so they don't keep reproducing.

im fine with them producing. its not a huge deal to me. i like it cause i started with 3 and i have around 20-30 now. the body of the goldfish is probably 3" but it u add the tail its around 7". i more or less inherited it form my brother. i didn't rly want it. and if i run out of guppies i run out of guppies. i have a spare 29 and a spare 10 gallon but until i find my own place i wont be setting those up. the goldfish in with my RES are comet goldfish. they were bought small and as feeders but are now around 3 or 4". im looking for something to add to the tank. a bigger fish of some kind. i understand the risks of keeping anything with a RES caues ive seen many many feeder fish go through mine haha. my RES is also nearing 4" but ive had almost no casualties in over a month. i say almost bc sometimes its hard to count the guppies so i can only assume one or two are missing haha

If I lived closer I'd take your fantail =\ (I'm near NYC). I only mentioned the guppies reproducing b/c you don't want a ton of guppies in the tank with the cories or the goldfish, you'll be doing daily water changes! You can always just keep them with the RES though. Also, a 29 gallon is pretty small for 4 comets. Although if it's temporary, you could do it (very temporary), but then you should probably hold off on getting the cories. Like I said before, the one thing I would watch out for is that the cories get enough food... goldies love to eat their food and more!! Cories are def. a ton of fun though.

well lets say i move all the guppies over from my 29 into my 65. and i could easily just leave the fantail by itself. and come summer ill be rid of the comments because they will be large enough to go into a pond. i also might be up to a lot of guppies too. but i could probably sell some or just give some back to the pet store. i'd just really like some type of fish to put in my 65 that gets kind of large but not HUGE. do you have any suggestions of any kind if not corries? i was looking into catfish because i just think they look really cool and just seem really neat.

Just remember if you do go with corys, they need a sandy bottom.

All of those Catfish would work, just notice their requirements are in Liters, bu there is a converter at the bottom of the page.

You could also go with Loaches.

if you want catfish, go to petsmart they usually have really cool looking species of catfish. or you could get the Striped Riphiael Catfish which get big quick and are bottom feeders. Remember with any catfish you run the possibility of them eating smaller fish as they are opportunistic eaters in the wild. and Cat Fish get HUGEEEEEEE...

i have seen turtles live with large goldfish before, even thought the turtle would make a pass at the goldfish every once and a while..

I have cory's (2 panda, 3 green) with my turtles now. they seem docile, but they can bolt at any moment. I would read into the descriptions of the nature of the catfish first. I have kept several different species of catfish and from what i've seen in their nature and the nature of turtles, three are def some you can and cannot keep together.

for example, i would not go with the pictus catfish, for sure. The banjo catfish don't do anything, they burrow and then come out at night, so you never see them, so i guess you could keep them, because the turtles would never know if they're there.

maybe the featherfin, but they need aplace to hide/escape the turtle

pleco's would be fine, you may even catch them sucking onto the turtle's shell

aquahobby is an excellent site, a lot of experienced aquarists there. I used to post on their forums all the time
