My turtles are only like three months old or so. I've noticed that they kind of change colors? Some days, they will be darker. Some days, they will be really bright. And other days they will look a bit washed out. They don't have a very varied diet. They eat reptomin pellets, lettuce, and carrots. They're not sick. The temperature of their little habitat doesn't really change. What causes this?

My guesses (in order): food, lighting, just your eyes playing tricks on you.

could it have something to do with how much they've basked that day?
it's not my eyes playing tricks on me. jager is very yellow-y colored, but sometimes he's very green. stoli is a deep green sometimes, other times its a lighter pale green. it's really weird.

as they age they get darker. you should know that. mine looked the same as yours did now. as they got older and as she got older, she started turning brown.

I know that, but they randomly lighten up some days.

Mine did that too when they were little. It's perfectly natural for them to change colors in relation to their age, or their environment, or both.
