I really want to know if my turtle is male or female. I know that you can't tell until they get older but I can't wait that long haha :D. A few months ago I was turtle sitting for a friend and I let my turtle and hers stay in the same tank(they didn't fight). Once they got acquainted my turtle started to do the turtle ritual where they flutter their claws. I later looked this up and found out that males do this to the females. If this is true does it mean my turtle is male?

No not at all. It is also their dominance dance. It is one turtle trying to tell the other one he is the king of the tank in a way. Both male and females can do this and small turtles like yours will do it. has nothing to do with the turtles sex at all.

Oh whew, I saw one of my hatchlings doing this today and was worried it meant I had a male and female. They're only about 7-8 months old, so I figured it was a little early for them to be interested!
