Within the next year, I will be moving to Pearl Harbor. Does anyone know if I can take my daughters RES with us? I hope so....I have grown to like her. I have checked their site about that stuff and havent found the answer yet. Thanks in advance.

it might cost extra moving it there. see if they can arrange a flight to bring animals. hopefully they do

I am not worried about the cost to move the turtle...just if i can bring it to the island or not. I think, I should be able to have it in the cabin as a carryon.....Good thought though as that will be a determining factor for the airline.....

I would contact the Hawaii people to find out, but just a quick search online seems to imply that they are being sold, kept as pets, and are invading local habitats. Make sure you find an airline that is okay with the turtle being a carryon, and don't just take the turtle and hope that the X ray machines won't notice!

Calling the airline is the best way to answer your question.It's a serious matter and I wouldn't go by what people will suggest here.
You should also contact the DNR in Hawaii and see how to deal with this matter.

When I moved to Oahu, we had to get special inspections and stuff done to get our pets there. We even ordered a dog from Australia while we were there and we had a work with customs a lot. You should do as suggested and call before making any plans.

Well I got off my butt and called them....there is a special permit for them that costs $5.00....LOL and I have to present a good health check up at the quarantine station.....easy process for the turtle.... I would never sneak a turtle onto the flight...LOL next thing you know they would say I was trying to be a Bioterrorist...... Thanks all. I wasnt going to base it on a forum, just seeing if anyone here went through it with theirs.....

Gib -- Before you move your turtle to Hawaii I would make sure I have all thepaperwork in order. Many years ago they brought in Mongoos to kill snakes. They eat more than snakes causing havoc on the islands killing many other speices. They have almost overrun the islands and are now a minice. They are touchy about bringing non-native species. m.

There are already RES in hawaii. When i was living at Hickam AFB I had a RES. You can buy them at the pet store

OK so too benefit anybody that is thinking about moving to Hawaii with a RES....... sorry to bring up a really old thread.

I got an import certificate from Hawaii Dept of Agriculture for $5.00 then had the turtle checked out by a vet within 10 days of it being sent to Hawaii. I then UPS'd it out here for about 80 dollars. It arrived at the animal quarrantine station and was in great shape. They called me and I went and picked her up. Was alot easier than originally thought. I packed the turtle(Suzie) in a box with moss in the bottom and inside a damp pillowcase, surrounded by packing peanuts. Then put packing peanuts inside a bigger box and placed the smaller one in the larger one. Poked a bunch of holes and it made it just fine. They even commented that it was a great job to take care of the turtle during the flight and in shipping to pack it that way. UPS had no idea whether we were doing it right or not. But everything turned out great and I have an extremely happy little girl cause her Suzie made it.
