one of my coworkers is willing to give me her 55 gallon tank with stand for FREE! the catch is that she has 2 beta sharks, an angel fish, and a plecco (or some other kind of algae eater). she knows that i want the tank for my turtle. she keeps telling me to just take everything, and the fish will probably die from being moved anyway, or to kill them and just not tell her. now, i am NOT one to just kill people's pets (especially when she says "they've been my pets for 9/10/whatever years"). i keep telling HER to kill them (since she insists that she doesn't want them any more) and to just give me the tank.

now... a 55 gallon tank with a stand for free is a pretty sweet deal... but i can't kill someone's pets, no matter how much they don't want them. :(

You dont have to kill them. Your turtle will or you get lucky and the fish dont get attacked. So your turtle gets a new home, maybe gets fed, or he gets some new roommates.

You cant beat that go for it.

Rehome the fish on craigslist and keep the tank. None of this killing innocent animals, even if they are fish. It's animal cruelty.

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. You don't have to sacrifice the fish with a fillet knife, just have them in the tank and see what happens. Beta sharks are fast, and pleco's are armored, so chances are they will live for a while. Certainly long enough to be re-homed if that's what you want to do. Maybe a petstore will take them in. If the turtle ends up eating them, then it's nature but you certainly don't have to kill them yourself.

Yeah, post an ad on Craigslist for the fish, esp. if you aren't asking for any payment, you should get some takers that want to add to their tanks. Try posting the ad even before you acquire the fish, you might be able to get them out of there before you move the tank!

I took in 8 convict cichlids with the latest rescued RES because the owner said he was going to flush them. I'm not big on fish so I re-homed them. I agree, put an ad up for the fish.
