So this afternoon I brought Charlotte outside for the first time. She seemed really nervous and just hid in her shell most of the time.

I put her in a see through plastic container with a screen over top. She also had a basking platform and some shady spots. I also had a thermometer in there to monitor the temperatures so the water wouldn't heat up too much.

Is it normal that she just hid in her shell most of the time? I know it was her first time outside and all, but I would expect her to at least swim around a bit. I also would like to know about other people's experiences with taking their turtles outside for some sun. So feel free to post your experiences

She's scared. It's like getting used to a new tank. Just let her out everyday and she'll be used to it.

That's very true. I guess I thought bringing her outside in her "natural habitat" would provoke some kind of instinct that would make her feel at home.

I allways wondered is it ok if turtles eat grass?


not as a diet but if my turtle is outside with me..and he eats a piece of grass

Sir Max: I don't see why it wouldn't be ok, I know with lots of animals grass helps them digest their food. As long as there are no toxins in the grass (like if you spray your lawn with pesticides) than I would say it would be safe to eat. I guess there is always a risk though...

I took my turtle out on the balcony in big tub. I stuck on a basking plarform and put him in a sunny spot. He hid. So I went inside and watched him. He basked but everytime he saw me looking he hid in the water

- when I put the turtle in the pool (4x4m) to swim like crazy! I noticed that everlasting swimming pool wheel 360 and then see everything is calm (9 pcs red belly turtles)
