I personally had problems when I tried to put my 2-year old and my 8-month old in the same tank. It didn't take more than 10-20 minutes before the big one tried to bite the other one's head off.

From what I've heard, RES are more territorial and aggressive when it comes to that, than other types of turtles. I wouldn't recommend you house them together, mostly because of the difference in size and age. Look at them and try to imagine how much damage the bigger turtle can inflict on the smaller one if he/she decided to hurt the smaller one. In my case, Charlie's head could easily fit in Charlotte's mouth so I decided against housing them together.

I would not advise it, but if you decide to give it a shot, make sure you have a second tank on hand in case you need to separate.
