I love turtles but I don't know a lot about them. I have two RES. I've figured out that one is a girl and the other is a boy. I can't figure out how old they are. The males shell is 4inches vertically and horizontally. The female's is 4 1/2 in. vertically but only 4 in. horizontally. How can I tell their age?

P.S. Not sure if it has anything to do with Spring finally arriving but my male has been extra frisky lately and his *you know what* made it's first appearance yesterday. Didn't know what it was at first, I thought he was hurt. I figured it out when it went back inside his tail. Is there a certain age when this happens?

You should be able to resize your picture in photobucket. Select the pic, go to "edit", and one of the options should be resize.

As for age, like rsour said, there's no way for sure to tell their age, but at 4-4.5", you could hazard a guess at perhaps 1-3 years old.
