So, today I rescued 1 Large Male Yellow Belly Slider and 1 Large Male RES. They both are in terrible condition. They dont seem to be sick at all but they both have alot of algae on there shells, they were BOTH in a 10 Gallon Tank..Yeah...a 10 gallon tank with half water....and the water was so gross. Also, since they were in such a small tank i think they were fighting because BOTH of the turtles have several toes and claws missing on every foot. I can barly tell the RES is a male cuz almost all his claws are gone. its sad....luckyly they had a large 50 gal that they were not even using (i dont know why...) but im going to go get it tonight.

The people i got them from were my nextdoor nabors and they got evicted so they could not take them so i took them. I put them both in my 50 gal with my 3 little res and they seem to be getting along great even tho one of my little ones bite the bite the big ones feet here and there even tho it dont even fase the big one lol. I think they think there just big fish :D

So, I went to get the 50 gal but the people that own the house i guess locked everything up so tonight im going to go break in to get the 50 gal HAHA. But i did get the 10 gal they were in aswell, so Basicly i came up on 2 Free Turtles, 1 being a YBS which is what i really wanted cuz there so pretty. 1 10 gal tank and 1 50+ gal tank all for free :P not a bad comeby if you ask me.

beacuse these people are freaking dumb and dont care about there pets. You know what else they did? they have 3 pitbulls and even when they lived there they didnt feed, water, play or do ANYTING with them. there so skinny, I have to go over there just to give them water because i feel bad. They didnt even take them, they left them at the house so tomarrow i have to call SPCA to come get them so at least that have a small chance. because out here in the desert they have no chance by them self.

And yeah I dont know hwy ither and no it has no leaks as far as I know. they said i can use it for the turtles but i have to go get it, so tonight i got to go over there and break a back window or something to get in lol...

Yeah I agree I think the people are retards. The only reason they have 3 pits is because they tryed to breed there 2 large ones and then they had a bunch of puppys but since they dont take care of there stuff, ALL the puppy's except one died...

also, my little RES are picking on the Big RES lol, you think they will stop after a while?

Um... in the future, you should quarantine a new turtle for up to 90 days, to prevent spreading diseases to the turtles you currently have. Even though the new turtles may look healthy at first glance, they could be carrying something you don't want your other three to get.

Also, large turtles shouldn't be kept with smaller turtles. The new ones have a history of fighting already, and big turtles in general like to bully little turtles, hurt them, or even kill them.

I have never heard a story where two turtles begin fighting and grow to like each other or even just tolerate each other. Mine only get along because they have lived with each other their whole lives, and don't know what it's like to have something completely to themselves. If you want them to live together, it's best to get a separate dry container, and let them meet each other several times after the quarantine is over, so they can get used to each other.
Phryne - Japanese bobtail, 11 y.o.
Hurricane - RES, approx. 19 y.o., 7.00in. long
Typhoon - RES hybrid, approx. 19 y.o., 8 in. long
Sadie - RES, approx. 30+ y.o., 11.5in. long
Sophie - Colombian red tail boa, 15 y.o., 5 ft. long

Well as of right now I have nothing to put the bigger ones in so untill i get this other 50 gal tonight, they have to be put with my little guys. They dont seem to be mean at all, I think they just needed some more room then what they had to begin with. And Yeah I know i should quarenteen them which I mite do 2nite when i get the tank, I also got a little swimming pool the people had aswell they did not take, and whats funny is the swimming pool....is a BIG TURTLE! HAHAHAH its great.

By the way, I don't think there's any point o quarantine them now, after they've been together with the other turtles for a few days. If they had any disease (hopefully not) it's already in the water and on the other turtles.

Yeah the only thing that looked bad is when the female was basking and got the white stuff around her eye. hopefully its nothing too serious and wont spread if it is a sickness and not just shedding.
