Other Turtle Discussion :: In the beginning........

I was just browsing through my old photobucket pictures and found a pic of my first set-up and my RES as babies and thought it would be cool to show the progression through the years, and maybe give new turtle owners an idea of what they're getting themselves into since this will show the progress

This tank was a 10 gallon with a reptofilter.....Sounds familiar?? Notice the gravel LOL



Next is their first upgrade....a 75 gallon with cascade 1500 filter that i still have, followed by a pic of them at almost 4" mark




That tank was then modified with ATBA for more room and looked like this, and then i built a canopy but i don't have pics of that.



Today i have 2 of the original 4 RES i started with. I re-homed 2 of them to make room for more exotic species and breeding projects. I own approx 20 turtles and tortoises and sell and buy on regular basis, and have 3 large tanks and 2 tortoise enclosures. I won't post pics of them since i already did recently, but this is what one of the original RES looks like 3 years later.You can notice the dove tailing and slight pyramiding due to inexperience in the beginning.

Oh man in this picture he looks like a freakin TANK!



Wouldnt it be cool if they got like super sharp edges on them like that and just got huge like a snapping turtle? lol...would be a KILLER!

i should postpics of my tank. i havent in months. i cant ait till may. ill upgrade to my 65! biggest tank ive ever had!

I know what you are trying to show and that first tank wasn't "ideal" but I must say, that first little tank was very nice aesthetically! I can't help thinking it would make a nice enclosure for some small amphibian. All your tanks look great, and very natural.

Thats the look that i go for when building my tanks...A very natural look.Besides making the turtles feel comfy, they need to be very pleasing to the eye.
That first 10g tank did look pretty cool
It's back to being a regular fishtank and i run it when stock on feeders.

Alot of people who are new to owning RESs are unsure of what a tank should look like and how it should be set up - and than they find out the hard way. It's one thing to read about how a proper turtle habitat should be set up but it's really helpful (particularly for those of us who use English as a second language) to actually SEE it.

Alot of people who are new to owning RESs are unsure of what a tank should look like and how it should be set up - and than they find out the hard way. It's one thing to read about how a proper turtle habitat should be set up but it's really helpful (particularly for those of us who use English as a second language) to actually SEE it.
