Well I have the choice of getting a 1 inch Red Eared Slider or a 2 inch Rio Grande Slider. Do you guys think paying extra for a Rio is worth it?

The pros and cons of both
RES- Pros: small, young, cheap/ Cons: not as colorful

Rio Grande- Pros: colorful, rare/ Cons: cost more, not as young or small

What do you guys think? Thanks! :?

Well, the RES will eventually grow to be as large as the Rio Grande. If it's young and you can't take care of it then it'll die and you don't want that would you?

I think if I was looking for a turtle, and I came across a rio grande, I'd probably get one of them. As n00bempty said, turtles don't stay small for long, so a RES would be the size of the rio pretty quick.
The only other thing to consider, I think I remember reading that rio grandes get a little bit bigger than RES, but only by an inch or two.

If you like more color then go for it. My guess is that many years down the road the colors will most likely fade and he will start to look like a normal red ear slider.

By the way I have a cousin named David Alvarado :o

Well, if he plans to breed them then he could get some baby rio sliders.

I think if it were me I would go with the Rio Grande, and my reasoning is that with him being bigger than the RES he is probably older and more "established". The mortality rate for tiny hatchlings can be high. Plus, as much as I LOVE my RES they are incredibly common. I think it'd be cool to have something a little different.
