Very nice update. His nose looks like it's getting a bit longer, which is another male trait.

Thanks Steve. Yeah its wierd, I wonder if there is males with shorter claws than usual? He is still very active, the only time he sits around is during basking.

I think there are a few females with larger claws, so anything is possible. My male RES lost a few nails a few years ago, but they seem to be growing to normal size.

Huh I did not know that. I guess I will just have wait and see. The opening on his tail is pass the end of the shell so I'm absolutely sure he is a he. I didn't know males had longer noses than females. Just goes to show you learn something new everyday, even after ten yrs experience with sliders! Thanks Steve

I had another question, I have noticed toku is sticking his front legs out in front of him and vibrating them to his reflection is this just a mating ritual or is it also something else and is this only a trait of males or are females known to do it ( none of my previous turtles did this and I had females, never a male)?

It's fluttering... he probably is telling his reflection to back off and it's doing the same

Oh ok thats funny. As you can tell, I never had a male! None of my females ever did this. So, is this a charateristic of a male slider?

Both can do it, but only a male does it during courtship. I haven't seen my RES do this in awhile

such a beautiful turtle.. his shell is wonderful. I hope Mikey's shell retains it's patterns like Toku's
