Urgh Raccoons

Well when I got home tonight, there was a mother and 2 baby raccoons in my front yard who quickly climbed up a tree. Not too long afterward, my dad chased them out of my backyard. They didn't get to the pond, but they did check out the plant pond.

For safe measure, we added cinderblocks to the 4 corners of the pond's cage, plus put some coffee grind tins filled with rocks on the cage so if they touch it they'll make a lot of noise. My mom is sleeping in the room next to the pond with the window open just in case.

I lost my first turtle to a Raccoon many years ago, and lost a Juvie probably 4-5 years ago as well.

Yikes. This is why I don't ever want to keep my RES out at night. The first time I confirmed there were raccoons in my area was when I found a pack of about 12 of them going nuts. A few weeks later, there was a giant one on my fence outside my bedroom window. They're not easily scared away either.

What I use is just sprinting at them, they book it. But yes, it's hard to scare them away for good.

Scary! Luckily I don't have raccoons in my area.
