i have a to do list for this tank before i can call it done though.
1. build an outer wall so i can will up the tank the whole way and still use the dock or just build another ATBA
2. figure out what to use this drift wood for
Image
its about 2.5ft long and gets to about a foot or so wide at the widest point

any ideas or suggestions just let me know

I see what you are trying to do,your idea is great but i think you will need an really good equal flow to prevent stuff from being stuck between rocks. This is probably not on your list but since i switched to sand it removed all those problems since the trash that touch the sand get ate by the turtles or the fishes. but i think your idea worth an try and im impatient to hear about the results :).

well ive had this up for around a month or so and as far as i can tell it is working, i only went with this idea because i got frustrated with sand. cleaning it was just such a pain so i gave up on it. i have it hooked up to a rena xp3 so the flow rate isnt bad but it would probably work better with a more powerful pump, which i might switch to at some point

You could rig the wood to the top of the tank and use it as a basking area.
