I was having trouble figuring out how many gallons my fish tank had, before I bought my RES. Here are the approximate measurments

Width: 24 inches
Length: 12 inches
Height: 15 inches
Volume: 4320 inches cubed

Using an online converter, it says it's only about 20 gallons. That cant be true, can it?

its only 19-20 gals that is only good for a hatchling

That's about 18 US gallons. A quick way to figure out gallons is:
(length x width x height) / 231

And I agree with corey, that tank will last a hatchling maybe a month or two before you'll need an upgrade. Best keep the fish tank for fishies, and have a look around for a nice big (55g+) tank

Well how much do you think a 50 gal tank would cost used?

a male res can get up to 8-10 inches the more water the better and usally your supoosed to go by 10 gal per inch rule so like
5 inch turtle=50 gal tank and so on i mean that 20 gal is fine for know you just need to get a new one soon

it would still be ok to have one in there just try to get a smaller turtle

Cost depends on your area. Sometimes Petsmart has a dollar per gallon sale (up to 55g) and a brand new 55g costs only $55. But if you're in a smaller town, used tanks might be more expensive.

Have a look on craigslist, kijiji and your local classifieds, and you might be able to get a really good deal.

www.craigslist.com go to the pets area and ull find a 50 gal - 100 gal tank REAL cheap. and that site is all local for ur area so you can find someone within driving distance to get your tank cheaper then a petshop. and if your lucky it could come with stuff like filtration and stuff. I bought my 50gal on there for 60$ and it came with a custom stand, filtration, lights, air pump and some other stuff...so WAY better then going to a petshop less u want brand new and willing to spend a few hundred on it all.


Also a big tank usually dont take up as much space as you think it would. if you find a good one with a stand you can just set it up anywhere you want in the home. my tank is about 5-7 feet ide say long and about 1 foot wide give or take a few inches.

Standard 55-90g tanks are usually 4' long. If memory serves, the 55g is 12", and 75 and 90g are 18" wide. Sometimes you can find different shaped tanks though. I think some 50g tanks are only 3', and you might even be able to find a cube (2'x2'x2'). Just keep in mind that the specially shaped tank usually cost more.

Oh man ide love to find one of those cube tanks. they are so awesome.

Im thinking about it and if it were the length of my dresser and 15 inches high, it would have to be about 40 inches wide
