I thought maybe it was a RES. I put it on the scale and it weighs 15 lbs.

jeez that's enormous. I didn't see the red ears and its shell looks unusual so I didn't know for sure. if it's not a RES I'm sure someone on the forum will I.D. it, haha

wow. Great pictures. Lovely looking turtle, and its so large! I'm amazed its shell looks so wonderful for a wild turtle. Though, around here I mostly see muddy shells in the wild. It must've come from very clean water.

You already have turtles?

WOW COOL! I definitely wouldn't mind a turtle knocking @ my door. I'd probably invite it inside for a cup of tea.

that looks like a yellow belly slider to me. ITS HUGE AND BEAUTIFUL but are you sure its a wild? are there a lot of wild turtles roaming around? I will feel extremely bad if its a captive and someone just left it at your front door knowing you have other turtles...ha!

Very cool (ditto the one in your other post!).

That's not a RES or a YBS. It's a cooter of some sort, though I'm not good at identifying cooters. My guess would be a peninsula cooter (Pseudemys peninsularis). They're native to Florida, and they get BIG! :D

I can't believe how tall and round her shell is!
How cool that you get to see turtles all around your house.

When I realized there were two turtles in the yard I thought I was being invaded. This is how I ended up with Curtis but, of course, Curtis was a little hatchling. We ended up having to take the one turtle to the pond-it was trying to crawl under the gate to the backyard! It's obvious by both that the 110 acre pond across the street is THE perfect turtle habitat. I'm so glad to hear it's not a RES and Curtis won't be getting quite that big. It's kinda scary...even for a couple of dobermans![/i]
