When I first decided to put Kame’s container near my bedroom window (we’ve just moved to a new house), it was simply because she would have a view not because of the sun.
In January, the sun didn’t pass through my window…but as we all know, the sun is always shifting (well actually the sun never moved, the earth is the one that moves around but to common people like us it felt like the sun is shifting)…and the shifting gave great advantage to my dearest Kame.
1st, the sun shone through the east side of my window…Kame’s basking was on the west side of the window. I couldn’t move her basking area but I wanted Kame to catch the sunlight…so…I put Kame as shown bellow. Hehehe I call this action as daredevil sunbathing. I put her on the edge of her container, the other side of her basking area, it is about 44cm (17inches) from the ground. She could catch the sun on her back…she always enjoy that moment…sometimes she felt asleep. Before you started accusing bad things toward me…DON’T WORRY!! I always put a pillow beside her container, right under her…Her safety is my number 1 priority. I lift the pillow only to take some pictures of her. Fortunately she never felt onto the pillow my girl always stayed still.
Then, the sun shifted into the middle of her container. Kame could only enjoy the sun while she was swimming or hanging on her basking area’s stair. It’s not as efficient as before.
This month, the sun moved to a perfect place…straight into Kame’s basking area!! Look at her!! You can easily see that she is enjoying the sun and the view.
Hopefully the sun will stay like that for a long time…it will boost her shell’s recovery more than any UVB.
