Hi again...this is a quick rendering I did on MS Paint of how I am gonna probobaly do Leo's new set up. I used paint because I figured no one would know what I was trying to explain. Please leave comments letting me know if you think this would be a good setup or not. If you can see anything that I have forgotten or should add to the setup please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty good. How big is your tank?

Looks good. You may want either a cover over the basking area, or build up some "walls" on both sides of the tank so he doesn't climb out. I also might be a bit worried about the glass pie dish, since you know he's going to knock it around. Grey Goose had a really nifty idea using plastic containers. You might want to consider using a plastic dish instead of glass for the plants.

PS- That's a really good paint drawing! I'm absolutely lousy at drawing in paint.

how big is it? the setup is good. looks weird though. i'm used to seeing a basking dock on one side of the tank, not in the center. not that it matters though. looking forward in seeing the real one!

The tank is a 30 gal sterilite that you can see through.

I made a cover out of the snap on lid. I cut the whole top of the lid out and left 3 inches of the outside and got some plastic mesh and riveted the mesh to the lid. I can still take it off and put it back on. It looks kinda like a terrarium lid so he can't climb out. The mesh has 1" X 1" squares so it shouldnt block any of the UV's.

The basking dock im building is gonna be 12" X 14" wide which leaves 4 inches from the walls on each side. I put it in the middle so that Leo can swim from one end under the basking section and swim in to the plants. I wanted the basking section to be kind of a cave with the river rock making it dark underneath. I was originally gonna put it on the end but I didnt want it that way w/ the fear of him climbing out. I wanted him to be able to slide off on each side so he can go strait to the plants on the side. The wate is about 10 inches deep by the way.

Ill deffinitely consider using a plastic dish instead of glass I dont want him getting hurt. I just hope I can find something low profile so that I dont have to cut it down and worry about any sharp edges.

Hopefully Ill be able to start on it this weekend.........so check back for pics.

Thats really well done, i agree though, use plastic, glass is tricky. Cant wait to see it.

I like it but instead of having UV get UVB.Other than that I can not wait to see it

My only concern is how high the water is. In a storage container, filling it with that much water may make the sides bow out too much and put too much strain on it.

Why not look into a stock tank?

That's a good idea to use a plastic tote isin't it? I was told they make great houses for turtles.

They do make great "tanks", but because they aren't as sturdy (they aren't meant to hold water) you have to be cognizant of their limitations.
Filling them up too high can cause too much stress and lead to leaks.

It is UVB I have by the way. Not UV LOL my mistake. As for the water level its only 9 - 10 inches high and the height of the tub is just shy of 19 inches. It bows but just a lil bit and it doesn't bow at all w/ the lid I made.

I don't want a stock tank I don't care for the look of them. I'm hoping to pick up a 50 or 55 gal aquarium for his new home. The plastic tub is just temporary.

Well I'm hoping Ill be able to incorporate them in to my new aquarium when I get it. I don't wanna waste money and then have to make new stuff for him.
