I let him explore the house today for the first time. I've taken him out of the tank before, but usually I put him outside in the grass, because I figured our cat would attack him. but today I decided to give it a try...here's some random pics of Harley, since I haven't posted pics in a while.

Harley is doing good. He'll be 8 years old in August. I'm having problems getting his water to cool down, now that it is summer and the house only gets so cold even with the air conditioning on, his temp won't go below 79 no matter what I do...I don't think he likes it. oh well. he isn't basking as much as usual...

and how come his shell looks fine to me in the rest of the pics and when I look at him in real life, but sometimes it looks like it is starting to pyramid slightly? or is that just normal overlap of the scutes? example:

Looks good! The shell looks alright, it should smooth out more once he stops growing.

I don't think they stop growing at an age i think it's the size he should get to 10 inches the most

oh. yeah he'll be 8 years old in August of this year, his shell is about 8 inches long...but he hasn't grown since I owned him over a year ago. I thought they stopped growing around 4 years of age? hmm.

thanks. my tank is boring, I need to get more sand so I can put it in once I have enough to cover the bottom of the tank, and some new decorations/live plants to spice it up a bit.

I have seen allot of 8 inch males thats normal if he stopped at 8

exactly. I'm positive he's done growing, just someone mentioned that his shell will flatten out as he grows more but since he's done growing, I hope his shell's okay. it looks fine to me, but I'm paranoid of pyramiding!

I think in the case of pyramiding, it's not just like his ridge is pronounced, but rather than each scute has what looks like a stack of scutes on top of it, forming a pyramid shape. This is because he would have grown too fast for the scutes to be ready to shed.

If you say your tank is boring...I wonder what will you say about my tank...there's absolutely nothing in it
