Image

It's fairly new and hasn't gotten any bigger. He's not rubbing against anything like it's bothering me; I'm just concerned.

I've found this online but would still like to know more about it. I've never seen a turtle shed before and would like to know what to expect if this is truly the case.

Silvery spots under the top layer of shell
The silver spot is most likely air trapped under a scute that might
shed soon. (Not the whole scute to the bone, just one layer, which
turtles shed periodically.) Just keep an eye on it. Sometimes, the
spot turns green from algae that grow on it. You may try, gently,
to see whether to scutej (just a transparent layer) is loose and
comes off.

My turtles have those a bit, they're kinda silvery but only show up really when their in the water. I try to remove the flaky scutes. I'm not sure what it is though to be honest.

Hm it might be him shedding.
If its fuzzy then its shell rot or some kind of fungus.

It's definitely from shedding; I've found out that much. I just don't know how shedding works for a turtle, haha.

The scutes (individual pieces of the shell) start to loosen and will fill with air (the spot you are seeing) eventually enough of it will loosen that it will look like it's pealing off. It should eventually fall off on its own.

It's odd that, at least from the pic, none of the other scutes look like they're loosening...

If that's the only area like that, are you sure it's not something stuck on the shell?

Try scrubbing that spot with a soft toothbrush (brand new one not used) and see if that spot comes off or fades a bit.
